I. Alumni Association

Southwest Jiaotong University Alumni Association (SWJTU Alumni Association) is a social, academic and non-profit organization voluntarily formed by SWJTU's alumni. It is an important part of Jiaotong University Alumni Association, subject to the operational guidance, supervision and management of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and carries out activities in accordance with relevant national regulations and its article of association.

The history of SWJTU Alumni Association can date back to February 9, 1919, when Tangshan Jiaotong University Alumni Association was established in Beijing and then President Zhang Zongyuan and Zhan Tianyou, "Father of China's Railroad" were elected as member of council. Later, alumni in Chongqing, Pingyue, Hong Kong and other places established alumni associations one after another.

SWJTU provides life-time services for alumni, constantly cements the fundamental, strategic and long-term place of alumni work, encourages and supports alumni to establish alumni associations and sub-associations with regional or industrial characteristics. Now, SWJTU has 76 alumni associations.

II. Overseas Alumni Association

From the 1930s, some alumni graduated from Jiaotong universities settled down in Hong Kong and United States. In 1940, Jiaotong University Hong Kong Alumni Association was established. In 1943, Chiao Tung University Alumni Association in America (CTUAAA) was founded in Los Angeles. By virtue of selfless contributions from generations of alumni of Jiaotong universities, CTUAAA, formed by alumni of five Jiaotong universities, is one of the oldest and largest Chinese alumni organization in North America.

With the implementation of the reform and opening-up, overseas alumni have increasingly contacted with their alma maters as well as mainland alumni. In order to better strengthen links among alumni, share information and help each other, under the support of schools and overseas alumni, alumni associations have been successively established in Singapore, Japan, Canada, Europe, etc. At present, there are 12 overseas alumni associations.
