Research Impact

Southwest Jiaotong University is a traditional top university in rail transit. Our first-level disciplines of transportation engineering have kept ranking the top, with the ability of multi-disciplinary cooperation in tackling difficulties. In our 126 years of history, SWJTU has been the birthplace for many scientific talents and engineering masters, such as Mao Yisheng, Zhu Kezhen, Lin Tongyan, and Huang Wanli. SWJTU has cultivated a large number of academicians, design masters, and engineering technical backbones for China’s rail transit industry.

Mobile equipment technologies                                
Centering on the full life cycle of "design, manufacture and O&M of high-speed train (HST)" and presenting the HST-oriented dynamics research system for large coupled system based on the "Shen–Hedrick–Elkin's Theory" for wheel-rail creepage and "Zhai–Sun Model" for train line in laboratory, thus promoting China's large coupled system dynamics research of HST to the international advanced level, and supporting and completing the design and performance optimization of all HST dynamics parameters in China; establishing a platform for testing and verifying the dynamics performance of whole vehicles, and monitoring the evolution of HST service performance, creatively completing the bench test for simulating the whole-vehicle running of HST at 600 km/h and 15 million km tracking test of train operation, and playing an irreplaceable role in the introduction, digestion, absorption, and re-innovation of Chinese HST, and the development of CRH380 and CR-series trains.
 
Infrastructure technologies                                
Creating the "ballastless track and high-speed turnout dynamics theory", "HSR wind-vehicle-bridge dynamics theory", and "safety control technology for construction of large complex tunnel projects, subway and underwater shield tunnels", and developing complete sets of technologies and equipment for HSR line construction and precise post-construction settlement monitoring, as the strong support for the design–construction–maintenance and disaster early-warning/forecast of HSR infrastructures.
 
Traction power supply technologies                                
Presenting the protection and control theory of traction power supply system that meets the special power supply mode and the requirements on massive monitoring objects in China, establishing the ISCS technical system for HSR traction power supply, independently developing complete sets of ISCS technologies and equipment, and leading the development of HSR traction power supply theories and technologies in China;
 
National train working diagram drawing system                                
Developing and popularizing a series of important technical achievements in nationwide railways, such as national train working diagram drawing system, system-wide passenger ticketing security system, and high-end equipment for train operation simulation and HSR driver training, and providing important technical support for the efficient and safe operation of HSR.

Prestigious Academic Awards and Prizes

Since 2005, SWJTU has won many prizes for its research achievements made in the rail transit field, including:

· National Science and Technology Progress Awards (2 grand prizes and 9 first prizes)
· National Natural Science Award (1 second prize)
· National Technology Invention Awards (2 second prizes)
· National Science and Technology Progress Awards (29 second prizes).    
The state-level awards won by SWJTU have ranked top among universities, research institutes, and enterprises in the rail transit field, and our effort plays an irreplaceable role in improving the innovation capability of rail transit and the construction and safe operation of HSR in China.
