National Interdisciplinary Institute on Aging (NIIA)/ International Health Academy

National Interdisciplinary Institute on Aging (NIIA) was established in May 2015. It is the first national scientific research base on aging (SWJTU) approved by Office of the National Working Committee on Aging to be located in a university. NIIA has established substantial partnership in teaching and research with various international organizations such as World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), and internationally renowned universities and research institutions including CSEND, Institute for Management Development (IMD), Erasmus University Rotterdam of Netherlands, Seoul National University of South Korea, Yonsei University of South Korea, Keio University of Japan, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies of Japan, University of Tsukuba of Japan, Chuo University of Japan, Meiji University of Japan, University of Venice of Italy, University of Minnesota of the USA, University of Ottawa of Canada, Thammasat University of Thailand and Technological University of Malaysia. NIIA was rated as "Key Think Tank of Colleges and Universities for Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC" by the General Office of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of CPC in 2016. It has issued Report on Retired Life Quality Index in Chinese Large and Medium-sized Cities 2015/2016 (blue book series of Social Sciences Academic Press of China), Report on Living Conditions of the Aged in Sichuan 2016 and Guide to the Buildings and Settlements Suitable for the Aged. NIIA has undertaken the sub-project under the “Major Project” titled “Study and Develop Marxist Theory”: A Study on the Basic Connotations and Significance of General Secretary Xi Jinping's New Ideas, Thoughts and Strategies for Effectively Dealing with the Aging of Population and the research project of the "13th Five-year Plan" for the development of aging industry in China: A Study on Policies and Measures to Further Mobilize Social Capital and Force to Participate in the Cause for the Aging Population and Aging Industry Development During the 13th Five-year Plan Period, as well as more than 20 national-level, provincial- and ministerial-level research projects approved as the projects to be supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China , National Social Science Fund of China, and Humanities and Social Sciences Projects to be supported by the Ministry of Education.

In March 2016, given another name, "International Health Preservation Academy", NIIA aimed to make use of the Institute's rich international academic and industrial resources to promote industrial integration in crossing fields such as agroforestry, health care & aged care, intelligent medical treatment, culture & sports & tourism, health management and ecological human settlements to enhance the value of the aging industry in domestic cities and large cities, empower the industry and increase its efficiency, and creatively carry out the plan for the training of inter-disciplinary talents and the building of knowledge system in health industry. NIIA has presided over dozens of projects entrusted by the government and enterprises. In recent years in NIIA, efforts have been made to promote the establishment of the "Asia-Pacific International Health and Wellness Tourism Alliance" and the "International Cooperation Network for Education and Training of Healthcare Talents". NIIA will soon issue A Case Study on Best Practices of World Healthcare Cities and Standards and Best Practices for the Construction of the Communities Suitable for the Aged.
