About the lecturer:
Liu Caishan, professor and director of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, College of Engineering, Peking University, council member of the International Union of Multibody Dynamics,council member of the Asian Union of Multibody Dynamics, member of the 9th and 11th Standing Councils of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, executive council member of the Beijing Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, member of the Dynamics and Control Committee of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the leader of the professional group of multibody dynamics at Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, director of the Dynamics and Control Committee of the Beijing Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and member of Aircraft Dynamics and Control Committee of the Chinese Society of Astronautics.
Professor Liu Caishan has been long engaging in the research on dynamics and control related to aerospace engineering. He has made a series of achievements in modeling theory and algorithm of collision, contact and impact dynamics, friction dynamics, granular medium dynamics and so on. He serves as editorial board member of several international academic journals.
About the lecture:
Mechanics finds its application in the quantitative expression and effective prediction of natural phenomena and engineering technical problems. Through designing simple mechanical objects, we can showcase the specific physical phenomena and manifest the characteristics under the corresponding mechanical laws.
This lecture will present several simple examples in daily life to illustrate the mechanical laws behind simple objects as well as reviewing some classic mechanical concepts. The important role of mechanics in solving engineering and technical problems will also be discussed in the backdrop of aerospace engineering.
