Yan Xuedong Visits Indonesia and Laos to Further Educational Cooperation under Belt and Road Initiative

 From April 22 to 29, President Yan Xuedong visited Indonesia and Laos to expand partnerships with local universities, governments, and enterprises, further advancing high-quality collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative.

During the visit to Indonesia, President Yan held meetings with the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, Science and Technology, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Indonesia, and the University of Indonesia. He also met with Subagiyo, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency on Transportation. The two sides reached a consensus on talent cultivation, training, and academic exchanges, and signed a cooperation agreement. In addition, President Yan held in-depth discussions with Tatacipta, Rector of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and signed a research cooperation agreement between the two institutions.

The delegation also visited Kereta Api Indonesia, the joint maintenance consortium for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, and Kereta Cepat Indonesia China. These visits enabled the delegation to secure valuable insight into the railway’s operation and maintenance, and facilitated discussions on talent development, international training, and research collaboration. On the afternoon of April 24, President Yan promoted study opportunities at Southwest Jiaotong University during the “Undangan Pamern Pendidikan Tinggi Sichuan yang Menawan (Lokasi Indonesia)”, drawing the attention of many Indonesian students.

In Laos, President Yan and his delegation met with Phout Simmalavong, Lao Minister of Education and Sports, and held talks with Dexanourath Seneduangdeth, President of the National University of Laos. The two sides held in-depth discussions on educational cooperation and academic exchange. President Yan also signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement with Daochinda Sihalath, Director General of the Lao National Railway Company, marking the beginning of joint efforts in talent development and technological research in the railway sector. The delegation visited several institutions, including the Laos-China Railway Company Limited and the Laos Railway Vocational and Technical College, to gain a deeper understanding of the construction and operation of the China-Laos Railway and the development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. These visits paved the way for future joint university programs, industry-academia partnerships, and international training initiatives. On the afternoon of April 28, President Yan also attended the China (Sichuan)–Laos Education and Economic Exchange Conference in Vientiane, further promoting collaboration in education between the two sides.
