From May 22 to 23, Yu Minming, Secretary of the CPC SWJTU Committee, and his delegation visited Hong Kong, China. During the stay, Yu met with officers from Chi Wah Foundation Limited, held discussions with the newly elected council members of the Hong Kong Alumni Association and representatives of Hong Kong alumni, and paid visit to enterprises including Hong Kong & Macau Branch of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, aiming to advance the university’s exchanges and cooperation with various sectors in Hong Kong.
On May 22, Yu Minming went to the Hong Kong Chi Wah Foundation Limited and held discussions with Lam Ko Yin, Vice Chairman of Henderson Land Development Company Limited and chairman of the Chi Wah Foundation Limited. Yu Minming expressed gratitude to the Foundation for its donations in support of the university’s development and the construction of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center on Xipu Campus. Following the introduction of the university’s recent achievements in talents training and research, Yu hoped that both parties would continue to strengthen communication, deepen cooperation, and collaborate to promote quality development of higher education.
Lam Ko Yin extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He highlighted that the Hong Kong Chi Wah Foundation Limited, is committed to “serving China through the development of science and education and contributing to the betterment of society”. He took note of the smooth progress of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center — “Chi Wah Building” and “Chi Wah Plaza”, and appreciated the efforts of the University invested. He further introduced the latest ideas and achievements on cooperation between the foundation and the higher education circle.

On May 23, Yu Minming met with the newly elected council members of the Hong Kong Alumni Association and talked with alumni representatives. Zhang Yi, president of the Hong Kong Alumni Association. At the meeting, Zhang introduced the re-election of members and the future working plans. The representatives fondly recalled their time of studies at alma mater, and shared their professional and academic accomplishments in Hong Kong. In addition, focusing on building a world-class university and related reform strategies, the alumni, drawing on their respective industry backgrounds and experiences, offered suggestions on cooperation between alma mater and the stakeholders in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Yu Minming conveyed to the alumni alma mater’s greetings and gratitude and updated them with the latest progress of the university in talent training, technological innovation, faculty development, and the construction of science-and-innovation park. He noted that since its establishment, the Hong Kong Alumni Association has consistently supported the university’s growth, serving as a vital bridge between alumni and alma mater. He stated that all the alumni should promote the ethos of SWJTU, “Cultivating Talents to Rejuvenate the Chinese Nation and Persevering in Self-Improvement”, and contribute their part of efforts to Hong Kong’s growth and the construction of GBA. Yu also invited alumni to return to the University for the 130th anniversary and reunion.
