Prof. Gao Shibin, Chief Professor and a doctoral supervisor at the University, is specialized in high-speed railway power supply technology and equipment. He also serves as Director of the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technique Research Center (NEEC), Deputy Director of the Electrification Committee of the China Railway Society (CRS), Vice Chair of the Society’s Standardization (Electrification) Professional Technical Committee, Member of the Expert Advisory Committee for Sichuan-Xizang Railway Construction, and Member of the Technical Committee of the National Railway Administration (NRA).

Over the past 30 years, Prof. Gao has been engaged in theoretical research and technological innovation in the field of rail transit traction power supply, taking the lead in the R&D of a series of major equipment, including the integrated protection-control-dispatching system for high-speed rail power supply, the technical equipment for high-speed pantograph-OCS safety inspection-diagnosis-maintenance, and the high-voltage, large, energy-saving wound-core traction transformer. These breakthroughs addressed critical engineering challenges such as reliable power supply, operational safety, and energy efficiency for high-speed railways. Prof. Gao’s research outcomes are widely adopted across China’s high-speed rail network and exported to 17 countries, providing strong support to the safe operation of China’s high-speed rail, characterized by “high speed, high density, and large transport capacity”, and the internationalization of China-standard high-speed rail power supply technology and equipment. His contributions have been instrumental in establishing China as a world leader in this sector.

Prof. Gao has won four Second Class State Science and Technology Awards (two as the lead contributor, two as the second contributor), one Special Prize and five First Prizes of Science and Technology Award of CRS, three First Prizes of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and one First Prize of Sichuan Provincial Technological Invention Award. He has also been honored with the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, the “National Award for Excellence in Innovation” Medal, and the Grand Prize of the Tien-yow Jeme Railway Science and Technology Award.

Over his career, Prof. Gao has remained steadfast in his commitment to teaching and nurturing talent, while actively driving forward teaching reforms. He has supervised 165 doctoral and master’s students, cultivating a large number of engineering and management professionals for China’s rail transit electrification sector. He has been awarded the title of “National Model Teacher”.
