Introduction to Some Funds (Key Programs)

1)University Development Fund

In order to carry forward the university precious spirits, SWJTU will raise funds, set up alumni scholarship and faculty fellowship to encourage students to forge ahead, support excellent but poor students to participate in overseas study tours and help them broaden their horizons; facilitate the construction of characteristic online open courses, promote the implementation of SWJTU's strategies, advance the campus landscaping and featured landscape creation and enrich the campus culture.

2)Sun Xiang Education Fund

Professor Sun Xiang is a famous expert in railway traction power and one of the academic leaders in the field of rolling stock in China. He is also the founder of the study on the dynamics of heavy-haul trains in China and was granted with the title of National Excellent Young and Middle-aged Technology Expert with Outstanding Contributions. From June 1993 to March 1995, he served as the 61st President of SWJTU and spared no efforts, having a great impact on the development of several outstanding persons in SWJTU and making remarkable contributions to SWJTU's development.

In order to commemorate Mr. Sun Xiang's contributions to SWJTU's development, inherit and carry forward his spirit of education, urge on education, encourage students, teachers, management personnel, practice the university motto in study, teaching, scientific research and management and make new contributions to SWJTU's rejuvenation and upgrading. SWJTU Sun Xiang Education Fund, initiated by students of Mr. Sun Xiang, with funds raised by many parties, is committed to award those make excellent performance in study, teaching, scientific research and management.

3)Cao Jianyou Education Fund

Dr. Cao Jianyou was a famous technical expert and educator in railway Electrification engineering and also the founder of China's traction electrification and automation discipline. He finished his postgraduate program overseas. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he determinedly gave up superior conditions and returned to China. Since 1951, he had become a teacher of SWJTU. For more than 40 years, he had lots of students, and cultivated many technical backbones and experts, including the first batch of graduates in electrical transportation.

Dr. Cao Jianyou had a unique vision. In the early 1950s, he started to set up the electrical transportation major, becoming the founder of several strong majors of SWJTU today. In addition, in 1958, he proposed to set up the Major of Computer Science, which was then resumed in 1978, making indelible contributions to the development of SWJTU's computer and information major, and playing a great driving role in training more computer talents in early stage.

This Education Fund is committed to award excellent students who show strong performance in traction electrification and young outstanding teachers who make remarkable contributions, and further promoting the leaping development of SWJTU's traction electrification discipline.

4)Fuguang Railway Education Fund

Professor Wan Fuguang is the academic leader of China's railway engineering and the first dean of School of Civil Engineering at SWJTU. He has been committed to teaching and scientific research of the theory on railway rail structure and track dynamics for a long time. He is one of the pioneers in the research on the theory and application of seamless railway structure in China. Devoting to educating young people, Professor Wan Fuguang has cultivated several academic leaders in China's railway engineering who have enabled China to make remarkable breakthroughs and reach the world's advanced level in high-speed railway.

Professor Wan is respected for his low profile and modesty. He lives in a plain, hardworking and frugal way, hailed as a model. He always considers for the good of young teachers and students. He is indifferent to fame and wealth, and willing to help others.

The purposes of this Fund are to: first, award excellent talents in the industry of railway engineering and become the most influential scholarship in railway engineering; and second, named after Professor Wan Fuguang, commemorate Professor Wan's achievements in teaching and scientific research, revitalize the rail transit industry and make new splendid achievements.

5)Sun Xunfang Railway Education Fund

Professor Sun Xunfang was a famous Chinese expert in engineering mechanics and educator in mechanics, enjoying the Government Special Allowance of the State Council. He served as Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics for consecutive three terms. He obtained abundant fruits in fracture mechanics and damage mechanics.

Professor Sun Xunfang was one of the earliest people who actively publicized and proposed to conduct research on fracture mechanics, and the first person who applied the research on fracture mechanics to engineering practice and obtained a number of scientific results. Professor Sun took active part in teaching. The teaching materials compiled under his leadership have been widely spread around the country and praised by domestic teachers and students. Professor Sun was approachable and often discussed with students. He was a good teacher and friend, respected by students.

In order to commemorate professor Sun's contributions to China's mechanics research, award outstanding talents in mechanics research, SWJTU Sun Xunfang Education Fund has been established, committed to inspiring students to come down to earth, forge ahead and constantly explore new breakthroughs in mechanics research.

6)Qian Dongsheng Education Fund

Professor Qian Dongsheng was a famous expert in bridge design and the founder of bridge design course in China. He participated in the demonstration of the design and scheme of many large bridge projects, including the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. Since he worked with the university (called Tangshan College of Engineering then) from 1949, Professor Qian was diligent in writing and his teaching work, devoted to the bridge engineering practice and research on the history of bridge with enthusiasm, and cultivated a great number of high-level specialized technical talents.

In order to carry forward Professor Qian's education spirit and high morality of caring students and concentrating on academic research, support the development of national educational undertaking and encourage students to study hard and make innovations, SWJTU Qian Dongsheng Education Fund was initiated by relevant units of the bridge sector and Professor Qian's students. It awards doctoral students, master's students and undergraduates of the School of Civil Engineering who make outstanding achievements in academic and scientific research and also excellent in character.

7)Young Alumni Development Fund

Young Alumni Development Fund is an endowment fund initiated by SWJTU Young Alumni Association and established by 1896 young alumni who are affectionate to SWJTU based on the crowd funding idea and through micro fundraising.

In order to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of SWJTU, carry forward the university spirit, carry out various alumni activities better and promote mutual help among alumni, the fund, advocated by enthusiastic young alumni, and planned and organized by SWJTU Young Alumni Association, was then established to specially support innovation and entrepreneurship of students and young alumni, and the construction of the platform of Young Alumni Association.

8)Emei Campus Construction and Development Fund

"I come from inside Shanhaiguan and settle down at the foot of Mount Emei." It was believed that alumni who studied in Emei campus share the same feeling. When Emei Campus was established in 1971, a large number of industry leaders have been cultivated, including authorities in science and technology, such as He Huawu, Li Shushen, Qin Shunquan, Zhai Wanming and Ding Rongjun, design masters such as Wang Zhengming, Wang Yuze and Xu Gongyi and excellent managers like Wang Xiankui.

Nowadays, Emei Campus is accelerating the construction of the High-end Training Base and the China-foreign Cooperative Education Base, improving the overall level and complementing with campuses in Chengdu to realize high-level development.

In the future, Emei Campus will gradually develop into a beautiful and harmonious branded campus with distinctive characteristics which complements with two campuses in Chengdu. It will house several schools and research institutes, and will be the high-end training and research base and the China-foreign Cooperative Education Base. In addition, supported by the China-foreign cooperative education institution and relevant programs, Emei Campus will cooperate with Leshan Municipal People's Government to build into "High-end International Education Park". To this end, Emei Campus Construction and Development Fund was established. It accepts donations from the public.
