Backup efforts from SWJTU overseas alumni in fighting against the COVID-19

After the outbreak of COVID-19, overseas alumni have lent a helping hand to the University in fighting against the pandemic.

Japan Alumni Association helped procuring masks. Canada Alumni Association joined forces with the Canadian Chinese Society of 100 (CCS100) and Canadian “World Association of Chinese Doctors” to raise funds for the pandemic fighting frontier.

On February 8, Han Zhiyong, a graduate in Railway Engineering of 1994, organized members of the Jinshang Business Club (Singapore) to donate funds and medical supplies, and tried every means to send them to China as soon as possible to support the pandemic prevention and control. With a total of RMB 125,869 donated, they purchased and sent home 500 nos. N95 masks, 10,000 nos. surgical masks and 200 nos. goggles.

On February 27, the Canadian Alumni Association of Jiaotong University, Toronto Alumni Association of Beijing Jiaotong University and the Toronto Alumni Association of SWJTU jointly held a fund-raising activity. A total of $8646.28 was raised for the purchase and donation of 80 nos. medical protective clothing, 1800 nos. Level 3 surgical masks and 200 nos. 1870s N95 surgical masks.

On March 26, the American Alumni Association of Jiaotong University donated USD 1,720 to the University for the prevention and control of COVID-19.

On March 30, the University received 3,500 disposable masks from Iraqi international students WALEED KHALID HUSSEIN AL ANI (doctoral candidate of 2017, School of Mechanical Engineering), SAAD JASIM MOHAMMED (doctoral candidate of 2018, School of Civil Engineering), MOHAMMED MOHSIN SALMAN ALSHUWAILI (master candidate of 2018, School of Civil Engineering), as well as Yemeni international student MOHAMMED AHMED NAJI MAHMOOD (master candidate of 2017, School of Civil Engineering). Mudi, a SWJTU student staying in Chengdu, was entrusted by them to make the donation.

Al-Ezzi Salih, an Iraqi alumnus, graduated from the School of Materials Science and Engineering last year. After the outbreak of the pandemic, Al-Ezzi donated 56,000 masks to China in four batches, in collaboration with his friends, i.e., AL ANI WALEED KHALID HUSSEIN Ani, a second-year Mechanical Engineering doctoral candidate, SAAD JASIM MOHAMMED, a Civil Engineering doctoral candidate, and Mohammed Mohsen Salman, a Civil Engineering master candidate.
