10 alumni of Southwest Jiaotong University were recently honoured as “The Most Beautiful Railway Sci-Tech Personnel”, accounting for one third of the total number of winners throughout China.
The selection and nomination throughout China was sponsored by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway), and the China Railway Society set up a panel of experts and a selection committee to pick the best 30 railway sci-tech workers among the 102 candidates recommended by 36 organizations in the industry for their outstanding contributions in fields like epidemic prevention and control, poverty alleviation through science and technology, engineering construction, equipment manufacturing, railway operation and maintenance and discipline development, etc.

Zhu Dan
1978 ~ 1982, studied at the Programme of Tunnel and Underground Railway, Southwest Jiaotong University
Personal achievements:
Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Committee, Chief Engineer and Professorate Senior Engineer of the China Railway SIYUAN Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd. (SIYUAN).
For many years, Zhu has been dedicating to researches in the field of tunnel and rail transit and the research teams under his leadership have hit many China’s and even the world’s records. He presided over several major technical programs of national key projects, promoting the diversified development and technological innovation of rail transit systems. He won more than 20 science and technology awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and above. In addition, he was named as the “Young Meritorious Personnel in the Construction of Key Projects of the PRC” and is given the special government allowance of the State Council.
Ding Rongjun
1980 ~ 1984, studied at the Programme of Electric Locomotive, Southwest Jiaotong University.
Personal achievements:
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chief Scientist and Professorate Senior Engineer of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd (CRRC Zhuzhou Institute).
Ding is a leading figure in rail transit traction electric drive and network control technologies in China. He has been engaging in innovative researches and applications of traction converter and control technologies, power electronic devices for a long time, and has built the technology system and industrial platform of power electronic devices under China’s own brand. He presided over more than 30 major projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, earning him The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award, etc.
Lv Guanren
1980 ~ 1984, studied at the Programme of Railway Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University
Personal achievements:
Professorate Senior Engineer of the Public Works Department of China Railway Jinan Group Co., Ltd..
Lv has immersed himself in the research of railway maintenance technology for 36 years. He carried out systematic researches on high-speed railway maintenance technology, solved many technical problems, and participated in the review or compilation of many technical codes and specifications, playing an active role in improving high-speed railway maintenance technology. He received 13 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards and other awards like Zhan Tianyou Railway Science and Technology Award, and published more than 20 papers.
Zhu Ying
1980 ~ 1984, studied at the Programme of Railway Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University.
Personal achievements:
National Engineering Survey and Design Master, Chief Design Master and Professorate Senior Engineer of China Railway Group Limited (CREC).
Zhu has long been committed to the theoretical researches and engineering practice in railway survey and design, and has made pioneering achievements in ballastless track technology and high-speed railway precision measurement, contributing to the technological progress of the industry. He edited 10 academic monographs and 4 essay collections, and won 1 first prize and 1 second prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award and 1 second prize of the State Technological Invention Award. In addition, his scientific research projects have earned him the special prize of Science and Technology Award by China Railway Society.
Gao Shibin
1981 ~ 2004, obtained his bachelor’s, master’s and doctor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering
at Southwest Jiaotong University.
Personal achievements:
Professor, and Director of the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technique Research Center at Southwest Jiaotong University.
Professor Gao has dedicated himself to the innovative research and talent training in the field of railway power supply and automation, and creatively explored the safe operation of railway power supply system, technological innovation and equipment development for energy conservation and consumption reduction. Multiple major technologies and equipment developed by him have been widely applied in China and exported to countries along the routes of “the Belt and Road Initiative”. He was presented four second prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award and 1 special prize of the Science and Technology Award by China Railway Society.
Jiang Xianguo
1981 ~ 1985, studied at the Programme of Railway Electrical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University
Personal achievements:
National Engineering Survey and Design Master, Deputy Chief Engineer and Professorate Senior Engineer of China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC).
In 2009, he won the Mao Yisheng Railway Engineer Award and was selected as a national-level candidate of the new century talents project of China — Hundred, Thousand and Ten thousand Talents Project. Besides, he was awarded the May 1st Labour Medal of Tianjin City, the Locomotive Medal by the Ministry of Railways, the honorary titles of National Model Railway Worker and Tip-top Science and Technology Youth Talent by the Ministry of Railways.
Wang Changjin
1982 ~ 1986, studied at the Programme of Railway Aerosurveying, Southwest Jiaotong University.
Personal achievements:
Professorate Senior Engineer, one of the first batch of registered surveyors, and National Engineering Survey and Design Master.
Wang has been engaging in railway survey and design, technical management and scientific research for many years. He presided over and completed more than 50 national key railway engineering projects and more than 10 major special research projects. The research results play an important role in the construction of high-speed railway. He has received 1 special prize, 7 first and second prizes of the Science and Technology Award at the provincial and ministerial levels, 1 gold award of the National Excellent Engineering Survey Award, 8 gold and silver awards of National Excellent Surveying and Mapping Engineering Award, 16 provincial and ministerial Excellent Engineering Survey Awards, Mao Yisheng Railway Engineer Award and Zhan Tianyou Achievement Award. In addition, he was awarded such honorary titles as Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker of Tianjin City and Model Worker of Tianjin City.
Li Xia
1989 ~ 1993, studied at the Programme of Electric Traction and Transmission Control,
Southwest Jiaotong University.

Deputy Chief and Professorate Senior Engineer of Technology Department of Luoyang Locomotive Depot, China Railway Zhengzhou Group Co., Ltd.
With over 27 years of dedication in the technical management of locomotive maintenance, Li has made outstanding achievements and was thus awarded the Locomotive Medal and the title of May Day Woman’s Pacesetter, etc. In addition, she was granted 2 national invention patents and 6 national utility model patents and completed over 50 important scientific research projects. She also established a key talent workshop with the focus on technological innovation, aiming to train technical talents for the enterprise.
Yan Jinxiu
1994 ~ 1997, studied at the Programme of Geotechnical Engineering (master’s degree),

Personal achievements:
Deputy General Manager and researcher of China Railway Academy Co., Ltd. and Chairperson of International Tunneling and Underground Space Association (ITA).
Yan has made in-depth research on the construction technology of long and large tunnels, tunnel risk management, waterproof and drainage technology, etc. Her scientific research results gained her 1 special prize, 3 first prizes and 3 second prizes at provincial and ministerial levels. In recent years, she has published nearly 40 keynote reports in 30 countries to introduce China’s tunnel construction technology, facilitating China’s tunnel technology’s “going global”. She is given the special government allowance of the State Council and won the honorary title of the March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetters.
Tang Youfu

Chairman, Secretary General of the CPC Committee and Director of the Technology Center of China Railway Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd.
Tang has devoted himself to the research, survey and design of railway network planning, general layout planning of railway hubs, railway yards, railway stations, and station buildings for more than 30 years, and has made outstanding contributions to the formulation of relevant technical standards (specifications) for China’s high-speed railway construction, the organization and implementation of national key projects, and major scientific research. He has successively won many awards, such as 1 gold award and 2 silver awards of the National Excellent Engineering Design Award, the Individual Award of the National Quality Project, the Locomotive Medal by the All-China Federation of Railway Workers’ Union, the May 1st Labor Medal of Hubei Province, and the Mao Yisheng Railway Science and Technology Award. He is given the special government allowance of the State Council.
The honorary title of “The Most Beautiful Railway Sci-Tech Personnel” is not only a commendation to the extraordinary alumni, but also a recognition of the contributions made by Southwest Jiaotong University. We applaud them, and we approve of the glory all the SWJTUers bathed in!
Southwest Jiaotong University was founded in 1896, formerly known as Imperial Chinese Railway College. It is the birthplace of higher education in Civil Engineering, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering and Traffic Engineering in China.
