5 came to the forefront at the Fifth Biannual Sichuan University Young Teachers Teaching Competition
On June 18th, five teachers of Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) outperformed their peers in the final round of the Fifth Biannual Sichuan University Young Teachers Teaching Competition.
Yuan Ran from the School of Civil Engineering won the second prize of the Engineering Group; the third prize of Science Group went to Lu Peng from the School of Mathematics; the honorable mentions were awarded to Wang Qiang from the School of Humanities (Liberal Arts Group), Chen De from the School of Civil Engineering (Engineering Group), and Tian Yuan from the School of Life Science and Engineering (Medical Group) respectively.

Sponsored by Sichuan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Sichuan Provincial Education Work Committee and The Education Department of Sichuan Province, the Competition has attracted more than 10,000 young faculty members from 116 colleges and universities in the province since its launch in mid-March. After the fierce competitions at different universities and provincial preliminary competition, a total of 92 outstanding teachers from 36 universities were qualified for the final round.
Since 1993, the University has for nine times staged the Teaching Skills Competition for Young Teachers. With the concept “A Good Course” at its core, the competition aims to encourage young faculty members to actively participate in teaching, to innovate and individualize teaching modes, and to promote the application of modern educational technologies.
Before the provincial final, the five teachers beat 439 colleagues in the 9th university-level preliminary, semi-final and final competitions.
