First Prize in the 2020 FLTRP “Star Teacher” Contest goes to SWJTU faculty

On August 19, a team of English teachers including Jia Fan, Zhang Rui, Xu Xiaoyan, Li Zhou and Zhang Lubei from the School of Foreign Languages of SWJTU won the first prize in the 2020 FLTRP "Star Teacher" contest.

Launched in 2013, the FLTRP "Star Teacher" Contest is a national one open only to English teachers at the college level, and is included in the data sources of the "National Teaching Contest Analysis Report (2012 to 2019)" of Research on University Contest Evaluation and Management System published by China Association of Higher Education.

254 teams of teachers from English language related programmes staged their professional skills under the theme of "Integration of Language and Education: Foreign Language Curriculum and Teaching Design". SWJTU team chose English Grammar as their course for competition. In the preliminaries and semi-finals, Dr. Jia Fan, the team leader, gave a 15-minute presentation about "noun modifiers" and submitted the teaching synopsis and design. After the anonymous evaluation nationwide, the team made it to the final and won the grand prize.

From August 18 to 19, at the final with 24 teams from all over the country, Dr. Jia fan, demonstrated in detail the distinctive features, target audience, objectives, and concept for the design of synopsis. Zhang Rui presented a sample episode, in which she explained syntactic complexity from phrases to sentences and then to discourse step by step. After the Q & A session, the team won the first prize with the unique curriculum design and wonderful teaching skills.
