Top 1 of the Nation at the 11th China Students Service Outsourcing Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition

Eight teams of the University, winners of university and Western Division level preliminaries, excelled and won 2 first prizes and 6 second prizes on August 28, in the national final of the 11th China Students Service Outsourcing Innovation﹠Entrepreneurship Competition held in Jiangnan University co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Commerce and Wuxi Municipal People's Government. SWJTU was also rewarded with the "Excellent Organization Award" among all the participating colleges and universities with its class and number of awards ranking the first in the country.


The national final was hosted by the National Human Resources Institute for Service Outsourcing, Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Wuxi Education Bureau and Jiangnan University, and the competing teams were mostly composed of  undergraduate volunteers from domestic colleges and universities. The winners were selected after such procedures as registration, topic selection, preparation and on-site defenses. This Competition is also one of important indicators for the evaluation of the rank of university in discipline competition.

A total of 6,417 teams from 651 universities registered for the Competition, among which 4251 teams were qualified for the preliminary, including 3744 teams for Category A contests and 507 for Category B. At SWJTU, 131 teams registered, including 129 for Category A and 2 for Category B. At the national final, the University's "BD miner" and "SSD" teams obtained the first prize, 6 SWJTU teams the second prize, and 15 SWJTU teams the third prize.


The Dean’s Office and School of Information Science and Technology had since last year made preparation for the Competition, and organized different types of activities such as campus promotion, Q & A for topic selection, university-level mid-term defense, pre-defense of the Western Division Preliminary, supervision and assistance for the Western Division Preliminary, the national final, etc.

To supervise the contestants’ preparation, the University established an interdisciplinary team of prestigious instructors from the School of Information Science and Technology, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Architecture and Design, School of Transportation and Logistics, the Innovation Centre of China-US Youth Exchange and the Library.

In recent years, the University has successively offered competition courses, including Software Development and Training, Design and Application with Embedded-System, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Interaction Design, From PPT to Defense, From Codes to Things: Make What You Think, Reshaping Cross-border Vision and Creating a Smart Future Together, etc. These courses aim to develop students' practical and innovative abilities from the classroom to the competition arena, enabling them to innovate and provide complete solutions to the problems in the virtual business environment in consideration of various factors such as business models, technical schemes, commercial operations etc. Students are also encouraged to propose creative projects and start up businesses on the basis of excellent programs. Thus, their awareness of innovation and entrepreneurship is heightened, their overall caliber improved, and their learning and problem-solving ability upgraded in an all-round way.
