Students Global Competency Enhancement Summer Program 2024

During the summer holiday of 2024, the University carried out a series of activities under the Global Competency Enhancement Program. An approach integrating “local internationalization” and “cross-border internationalization” was adopted for the Program, and more than 2,900 students participated in the international exchange studies.

32 international courses were offered under the 2024 summer international program in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum and syllabus, covering both online and offline international courses and lectures on cutting-edge technology delivered by more than 50 experts and scholars from world-famous universities such as the University of Leeds of UK, Harvard University of USA, the RWTH Aachen University of Germany, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology of Sweden, the Ecole Centrale Nantes of France, the Delft University of Technology of Netherlands, and the Polytechnic University of Milan of Italy. The students who passed the course assessment were awarded an International Program Certificate and could gain credits for international courses or research lectures.

The University also introduced a series of high-level local internationalization programs including  “Innovation and Practice Program for the Cultivation of High-level Internationalized Talent”, “New Youth Global Competency Development Program”, “International Cooperative Training Program for Innovative Talents” and others. During their studies at the programs, students broadened their international academic horizons and actively interacted with world-famous experts and scholars through the research-based learning method.

The University encouraged and supported outstanding students from families with financial difficulties to participate in international exchange, and 20 students joined in research and learning exchange in Singapore’s top universities in the first “Setting Sail for Your Dreams” Study Abroad Program for University Students after the Pandemic.

The University offered customized exchange programs based on the characteristics of different disciplines. During the summer holidays, more than 300 students from the SWJTU-Leeds Joint School, the Institute of Smart City and Intelligent Transportation, the School of Mathematics and the School of Economics and Management joined a 1-4 week study tour program at the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds in the United Kingdom, the University of Texas at Austin in the United States, the University of British Columbia in Canada, the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University respectively. Through various program studies, corporate visits and cultural activities, students were offered specialized courses and exposed to academic research atmosphere at the world-class universities, acquired professional knowledge, broadened their international horizons and developed their multicultural communication skills.
