SWJTU's Supporting Institution (Lead): National Laboratory for Rail Transit (under Construction)
In July 2010, the Ministry of Railways approved the “Rail Transit Laboratory Construction Project”, since when, the Phase-I Works of the National Laboratory for Rail Transit was launched. This project, with the emphasis on high-speed trains (HST), aims to study the basic theories and basic applied theories on HST dynamics, high speed wheel-rail relations, high speed pantograph-catenary relations, and HST operation safety.
Construction of Phase-I works of the laboratory proceeds by focusing on the research of HST technologies. The Ministry of Railways invested RMB 300 million and SWJTU raised RMB 150 million to build three experimental platforms for basic research of HST, digital simulation of HST, and research on service performance of HST, with a total of 35 sets of experimental equipment inputted. Currently, the laboratory has a total of 24,200 m2 experimental, scientific research, and office area. The three experimental platforms for basic research of HST, digital simulation of HST, and research on service performance of HST of the laboratory have been substantially completed.
