State Key Laboratory of Traction Power

SWJTU’s Supporting Institution (Lead): State Key Laboratory of Traction Power

The State Key Laboratory of Traction Power was approved by the State and initiated in 1989, qualified for State acceptance in 1995, and accredited by China National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (CNAL) in 2006. The laboratory was twice apprised as 'excellent' by MOST in 2003 and 2008. The transportation engineering discipline that the laboratory relies on ranked the first in the discipline evaluation organized by MOE in 2003, 2008 and 2013.

The laboratory grasps the development trend of global rail transit technologies, builds basic research platforms supporting the modernization of rail transit equipment, and carries out basic, prospective, and strategic innovative researches centering on the development of modern rail transit (railway, metro, maglev, etc.), specifically on six directions: i.e. locomotive design theory and structural reliability; dynamics and control of locomotive coupling system; maglev technologies (including the ultra high-speed vacuum-tube maglev); theory and application of tribology; traction power supply, transmission, and control; detection and testing technologies. The laboratory has built a batch of self-research equipment, including the worldwide most advanced rolling and vibration test bench for rolling stocks, and pantograph-catenary hybrid simulation test bench.

Currently, the laboratory has established a high-level research team led by three academicians and incorporating a group of capable and skilled technicians at all ages. The laboratory also owns the first national innovation research team in the field of machinery and the first innovation team recognized by MOE in the field of rail transit. In recent years, the laboratory has undertaken a series of major HST-related scientific research projects, including the 973 Program, 863 Program, and National Science and Technology Support Program, which have won a dozen of national, provincial, and ministerial awards, including the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.
