China-Latin American United Laboratory for Rail Transit

In March 2018, China-Latin American United Laboratory for Rail Transit (hereinafter referred to as "the united laboratory") obtained the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The competent department of the industry is National Railway Administration of the People's Republic of China. Led by SWJTU, the united laboratory condenses the concerted efforts of renowned colleges and universities of Latin American countries such as Brazil and Argentina, as well as leading enterprises in the domestic rail transit industry. The united laboratory will launch the innovation on key generic technologies, leading-edge technologies and modern engineering technologies between China and Latin America. In particular, the united laboratory will conduct the basic researches into the feasibility and perspectiveness of such projects as the Brazil-Peru "Twin Ocean Railroad" and the Argentina-Chile "Twin Ocean Tunnel" that catch much attention. As the "pathfinder" for the going global of China's science and technology, the united laboratory has been witnessing an increasingly in-depth global cooperation in high-speed rail.

The project will rely on the construction of the Twin Ocean Railroad, the construction of intercity railway, the high-temperature superconducting maglev transportation and the technologies of heavy haul railway to provide technological support, talent cultivation and academic exchange platform for the China-Latin America cooperation in rail transit technology, and together promote the integration and development of relevant technologies.
