The Center for American Studies of SWJTU was established in 2013, which is one of the first key area studies bases in Sichuan Province. The School of Foreign Languages of SWJTU is responsible for the management and building of the Center, and the competent department is the Department of Education of Sichuan Province. In 2017, it became an area studies center filed in the Ministry of Education of China.
Based on the discipline characteristics of SWJTU, the American Studies Center, is committed to providing consulting services in policy, law, economy and trade, cultural exchanges and personnel training to relevant functional departments of the country and the People's Government of Sichuan Province, as well as educational, commercial and other enterprises and institutions, through timely, accurate and scientific research results, and providing intellectual support for promoting cooperation between China and the United States and Sichuan and the United States in various fields.
The Director of the Center is Professor Li Chengjian, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of SWJTU. The Director of the Academic Committee of the Center is Dr. Chu Chengzhi, professor at University of California Davis. At present, the Center has 6 overseas experts and 5 key members in the scientific research team. The Center publishes its own academic journal, Sino-American Humanity Studies. The journal has published 4 issues since 2017.
The Center holds its annual international conference at the end of June every year, and has held four sessions so far. Since 2018, the annual conference of the Center has been themed as “The Humanistic Foundation and Cross-cultural Understanding of Sino-American Relations” till today.
