Donation and Contact

SWJTU Library thankfully welcomes and sincerely solicits all teachers and students, alumni, social groups and people from all walks of life to donate books and other literature resources. Upholding the principle of "using everything to its full potential", the Library will screen and select donated documents according to the collection principle and standards of the Library.Once the donated books are collected, the ownership belongs to SWJTU Library. The Library has the right to dispose of the donated documents that do not meet the collection standards in an appropriate way.

In order to establish the donation quality control system in line with the collection standards of the Library, we hereby formulate the Management Rules for Donated Books in the SWJTU Library as follows:

I. The Category of Donated Documents

Documents that meet the following donation conditions will be collected in the Library:

1. Official publications related to the teaching and scientific research of SWJTU;

2. Official publications that meet the level demand (university and above) of the Library's audience;

3. Informal publications of high academic value, such as international conference proceedings and scholars' manuscripts;

4. Documents that are unavailable or in need of duplication in the Library;

5. The donation of the same book is limited to 3 volumes; and the donations of books or best-selling books closely related to the teaching and scientific research of SWJTU are limited to 5-7 volumes;

6. Pirated books, contaminated and damaged books, incomplete multi-volume books, and books that are of low taste, and are inconsistent with the collection development strategies are not included in the donation.

II. Management of Donated Documents

1. The donated documents shall be accepted and managed by the specially-assigned personnel of the Document Collection Department of the Library;

2. The name, compiler, donor name, work unit and donation date of the donated documents shall be registered;

3. After the screening and selection, donated documents shall be checked the duplication, accepted and reviewed, and then be classified and processed by the Cataloguing Department according to the Chinese Library Classification (CLC). According to the principle of collection and allocation, they are collected in relevant stacks of the Library.

4. Materials and informal publications shall be directly collected in the Reading Room for Reference Books after the registration;

5. Donated books that are damaged, contaminated and unsuitable for the collection in the Library shall be donated to "Charity Bookstore" or related sister universities;

6. The donations that have not communicated and contacted with the Library in advance, and are from other channels shall pass strict review.

III. Means of Donation
