First Prize at the 13th National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction
The University scooped 1 first prize, 3 third prizes and the “Outstanding Organization Award” in the final of the 13th National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction held from August 28 to 30 at Chongqing University.
As a national university student competition on extracurricular works of science and technology, this event is sponsored by the Department of Higher Education and organized by the Steering Committee for Guidance in Teaching of Energy and Power Disciplines in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education. Held annually since 2008, this Contest has become one of China’s most influential university student competitions in the field of energy and power.
A total of 4,138 valid entries from 427 colleges and universities were registered in the contest and displayed online, and both the number of entries and the scale of the final hit a new high. At the final, the juries reviewed the works submitted by the students offline and the contestants staged their defense online for reason of epidemic prevention and control.
The university level preliminary commenced in October 2019, and 748 students participated in the event with 157 valid entries. The team supervised by Prof. Zhang Zutao from the School of Mechanical Engineering presented their work “Piezoelectricity Power Generation System with Cobblestone Pedestrian Ground”, performed extremely well in the defense at the final, and won the national first prize.
