Wang Yufeng, associate researcher at the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering of the University, won the 2019 Outstanding Young Scientist Award of the International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR) at the 18th International Symposium on Geo-disaster Reduction/the 4th Gu Dezhen Lecture held at the Institute of Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing on November 20 and 23.
The Outstanding Young Scientist Award of ICGdR is granted to young scientists (under the age of 40) who have made outstanding contributions to the academic research fields related to landslides, mudslides, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and other geological disasters. Supported by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), Japanese government and international related research institute, ICGdR, a world-renowned non-governmental organization in the field of geo-disaster reduction with more than 80 members on five continents, has been active in the academic research field of geological disasters for a long time.

In recent years, Wang has presided over the general program, key program and international joint research program of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and performed researches for the Sichuan-Tibet Railway Major Project and the second National Scientific Expedition Project of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. His in-depth research on the formation, occurrence and evolution of long-runout landslides has yielded international first-class and innovative results in its geology and environmental background, disaster-causing mechanism and risk assessment technology.
