On March 28, the Ministry of Education held a launching ceremony for the platform of smart education of China. Huai Jinpeng, the minister of Education, announced the official operation of the platform – Smart Education of China·Higher Education. 139 courses offered by the University are among the first batch uploaded online.
The national integrated platform of open online courses is sponsored by the Ministry of Education and established by the Higher Education Press. It aims at pooling various quality higher education online courses to provide comprehensive, excellent, and convenient learning services for people within and outside the colleges and universities.
According to the statistics, more than 20,000 quality courses of 13 disciplines and 92 programs have been made available on the platform. Among the University’s first 139 courses uploaded, 43 have been accredited as national first-class undergraduate courses.
Southwest Jiaotong University, one among the first to start China’s open online courses, has presented five series and 167 open online courses including the ones with distinction, the ones for general education, entrepreneurship and innovation, and the fundamental ones for different programs, forming a systematic cluster of quality open online courses and modules in traffic and transportation programmes. The courses have been staged for more than 600 times and viewed for over four million times. Such online resources have helped many universities and colleges weather through the COVID-19 outbreaks.
