On Nov. 9, the School of Design hosted an academic salon featuring “Interdisciplinary Integration of Art and Technology” to further the exchange between the two fields and collaborative innovation and development.
Present were Wang Ping, professor and Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Zhang Weihua, professor at the State Key Laboratory of Traction Power and Chief Scientist of the Research Center of Ultra-high Speed Evacuated Tube Maglev Transport, Zhu Qing, professor and Changjiang Scholar at the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, Hao Li, professor and Director of the Institute of Higher Education, Zhu Minhao, professor and Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Chen Hui, professor and Changjiang Scholar at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Teng Fei, associate professor at the School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, Zhou Nan, Deputy Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Zhi Jinyi, professor and Executive Dean of the School of Design, and other 80 plus teachers and students. Scholars, based on their own researches, shared opinions on interdisciplinarity and integration of art and technology.
In his final report, Prof. Wang Ping was emphatic about the significance and urgency of interdisciplinary integration. He also expressed his expectations of a better environment for the process within the university, more organized researches, stronger support for the discipline of art and design, and closer evaluation of the fruits of interdisciplinary integration.
