Highly Commended” Prize at the UIC Final TrainRail Hackathon and the 6th Edition of UIC World Congress on Rail Training
Through the project presentation and on-site defense, SWJTU team secured the “Highly Recommended” prize with its “Virtual Railway Experience Solution” in the worldwide final of the first TrainRail Hackathon of the International Union of Railways (UIC) held at the UIC headquarters in Paris, France on November 29, 2022. Focusing on the theme of “How can railways be resilient in the face of pandemics?”, a total of 7 teams selected from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific region participated in this final after fierce competitions.
In December 2021, Southwest Jiaotong University hosted the UIC TrainRail hackathon for the Asia-Pacific Region in Chengdu, China. This event was sponsored by International Rail Education & Training Board (TrainRail) of UIC and supervised by the Education Alliance of the Belt and Road International Railway Talents and the Joint Research Center of the Belt and Road International Science and Technology Organization. Three award-winning teams included the SWJTU one competed in the world final online on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Region.
In the final, SWJTU continued to fulfill its duty as the vice corporate chair of UIC TrainRail, engaged in designing the organizational framework, compiled the evaluation documents and forms, and dispatched two experts to act as judges at the final.
Subsequently, at the 6th edition of UIC World Congress on Rail Training (WCRT), Xin Ling, Director of the Office of Development at Tianyou Railway Institute, delivered a keynote speech on the experience of SWJTU in international railway training, which was well received by all.
