The morning of June 19 saw the visit of Prof. Andre Jones, Vice-Chancellor and President of Brunel University London (Brunel), to SWJTU. The two universities signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in educational research and had in-depth discussions on future collaboration.

On behalf of SWJTU, YAO Faming, vice president of SWJTU, warmly welcomed the delegation and acquainted them with a brief introduction to SWJTU at the symposium. He expressed his wishes for cooperation with Brunel in such field as education and scientific research, especially in the development of international innovative talents in the design discipline.

Mr. Jones introduced Brunel and the background for the cooperation between the two universities. He took the visit as an opportunity to initiate and further official overall cooperation between the two sides. The delegation also visited the School of Design and SWJTU-Leeds Joint School and exchanged views with the faculty there.

On the afternoon of June 18, Mr. Yao discussed with Prof. ZHAO Hua, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) of Brunel, Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, and Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on Sino-foreign cooperative education, students’ training at master’s and doctoral levels, and scientific research cooperation.

Founded in 1966, Brunel, the only campus university in London, is a public research-intensive university offering academic programmes and enjoys an international reputation. According to the QS World University Rankings 2023, Brunel ranks 412th, with its engineering and technology ranking 291st and design and art 101st to 150th as per QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023.
