Prof. He Chuan of Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) was elected as Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering according to the results of the 2023 Academician Co-Option of the Chinese Academy of Engineering released on November 22.

Prof. He Chuan, Chief Professor of the University, Director of the National Engineering Research Center of Geological Disaster Prevention Technology in Land Transportation and Director of the Key Laboratory of the Transportation Tunnel Engineering Ministry of Education, has long been committed to the research of structural analysis and safety control of large complex tunneling projects, and has presided over more than 70 national and major engineering research projects. He has made significant contributions to the solution of theoretical and technical problems in structural analysis and safety control of tunnel engineering under special geological conditions, high hydraulic pressure, strong earthquake and high altitude. His research achievements have been widely applied to the safety control of the structures of river-crossing and sea-crossing tunnels, complex urban subways, and perilous tunnels in mountainous area, and his seven monographs and over 300 SCI/EI papers in important academic journals have exerted profound and far-reaching influence in this field with a record of more than 1500 citations in SCI and over 16000 citations in CNKI. He has been conferred with 57 invention patents and acted as the chief editor of one national and one regional railroad industry standards. In addition, he has also received many awards including one first prize and two second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and one second prize of National Technological Invention Award.
