Recently, “Modern Railway Dynamics and Transport Safety”, a Key Research Project in Fundamental Sciences led by Zhai Wanming, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chief Professor of the University, has been approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and granted a funding of 60 million yuan.

Based in the University and with academician Zhai Wanming as the leader, the Project is the second of its kind approved in Southwestern China, and the first one in the transportation field under the Engineering and Materials Science Division of the National Natural Science Foundation. Key Research Project in Fundamental Sciences is the highest-ranking and most generously funded fundamental research project established by the National Natural Science Foundation.

Academician Zhai Wanming said that the Key Research Project of “Modern Railway Dynamics and Transport Safety” is expected to solve the major scientific problems in railway engineering projects with higher speed, larger load and more stringent operating conditions through systematic basic research on modern railway dynamics.
