Historic First in Premier International Landscape Architecture Competition

In September, the first prize in the Analysis and Planning category of the IFLA International Student Design Competition was the most dazzling among the many awards won in various national and international competitions by students from the School of Architecture, as it is a historic breakthrough marking the university’s first-ever first-place finish in the highest-level international event for landscape architecture. To replenish such, some other students from the same school claimed one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, and eight nominations in the WUPENiCity 2024 International Competition on Student Works of Urban Design.

Historic Breakthrough in Top International Landscape Architecture Competition

Graduate students of the University, Wu Yuqiu, Yao Yining, and Lan Maolin, secured the first prize with their masterful work BOMBSCAPES: FROM THE WITHERED LAND TO THE LIVING REALM in the Analysis and Planning category of the IFLA International Student Design Competition at the 60th World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) recently held in the Istanbul Congress Center, Turkey. This is also the first time in history for the University to reach the top in the prestigious event.

IFLA International Student Design Competition is one of the highest-level competitions in landscape architecture, sponsored by UNESCO and organized annually by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the most influential academic organization in the landscape architecture field. Winners of this competition are decorated at the IFLA World Congress.

This year, the IFLA World Congress focused on the theme CODE RED FOR EARTH, calling for urgent global action to combat environmental crises.  Such a   theme underscores the necessity for action against global climate change and ecological degradation. The competition includes three main categories: Analysis and Planning, Landscape Design, and Applied Research, with a total of ten winning entries announced. Out of 111 submissions in the Analysis and Planning category, a single first prize, one second prize, one third prize, and one honorable mention were awarded.    

Remarkable Results in the 2024 WUPENiCity International Competition

on Student Works of Urban Design

At the 2024 WUPENiCity International Student Project Competition, co-hosted by the World Urban Planning Education Network (WUPEN), IKCEST-iCity of UNESCO, and GUIHUA magazine, students from the School of Architecture excelled in two competition categories.

The undergraduate students received one first prize, two third prizes, and three nominations in the category of Urban Sustainability Reports, and gained two second prizes, one third prize, and five nominations in that of Students Course Works of Urban Design.

WUPEN competition is open to students from universities of the world at the programmes related to urban innovation. Judged by a panel of renowned experts and industry professionals, the competition aims to advance the development of the urban design discipline.
