The Railway Geohazard Control Science Popularization Base of Southwest Jiaotong University was announced as a “National Railway Science Popularization Base” of 2024-2028 at the leading activity of National Railway Science Popularization Day in China Railway Museum on September 19. As the only representative of science popularization bases operated by universities and colleges, Professor Zhao Xiaoyan of the University shared experiences about science popularization.

Thanks to the relentless endeavor of the faculty and students of Geoscience and Engineering for over sixty years, a former Exhibition Hall of Geology back in the 1950s has become a science popularization base composed of “one museum, two centers and three platforms,” with the support of national, provincial and ministerial platforms such as National-local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Spatial Information Technology of High-speed Railway Operation Security and Sichuan Engineering Research Center of Geohazard Bionomic Control of Transportation Corridor along the Edge of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. The base has played a major role in multiple activities, raising the awareness of young students about railway geohazard control.
