The National Engineering Laboratory for the Safety Technology of Urban Rail Transit System was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in March 2016, and established under the organization of SinoRail Information Engineering Group (China Railway Information Technology Center) and in cooperation with Shenzhen Metro, SWJTU, Shenzhen Y&D Electronics Information Co., Ltd., and SinoRail Hongyuan (Beijing) Software Science & Technology Co., Ltd., and under the jurisdiction of China Railway Corporation. At present, the preliminary design scheme of the laboratory has been approved by China Railway Corporation, and it will proceed to the substantive construction phase.

Following the reply from the National Development and Reform Commission, the laboratory will focus on the urgent needs of establishing a comprehensive urban rail transit security system, and build a demonstration platform for R&D and application of security technologies for the urban rail transit system, so as to enhance the security level of China's rail transit system. The laboratory, together with other national engineering laboratories, such as the urban rail transit system testing laboratory, urban rail transit vehicle system integration laboratory, urban rail transit train communication and operation control laboratory, and urban rail transit engineering construction process and technology laboratory, will establish an innovative network for urban rail transit, set up a cooperative mechanism for reasonable division of labor, information and intellectual property sharing, joint formulation of industrial standards and norms, and joint promotion of technology transfer and transformation, and explore a way of solving "innovation island", to promote China's urban rail transit technologies to the international advanced level.
