SWJTU’s Supporting Institution (Lead): School of Civil Engineering

The Key Laboratory of Seismic Engineering of Sichuan Province was approved to be launched in 2008, and on this basis, a national scientific research base was further established. In 2012, the National Engineering Laboratory for Geological Disaster Prevention in Land Transportation was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission for construction. The laboratory is the first national scientific research base for our 100-year civil engineering discipline.

The laboratory focuses on major prospective needs of the country and aims to solve key technical problems in the prevention and control of serious disasters concerning three areas (high intensity area, mountainous disaster-prone area, and area affected by coastal typhoons and strong wind inland) and two ways (highway and railway). With the Seismic Engineering Test Center and the Equipment and Product R&D Center newly built, the laboratory carried out a series of technical researches, product and equipment development, and compilation of technical standards and guidelines related to the prevention and control of geological hazards, earthquake, wind, and other disasters for land transportation.
