The Programme of Computer Science of SWJTU-Leeds Joint School has passed the International Engineering Education Accreditation, as announced by the British Computer Society (BCS).
On April 26th, 2022, BCS commenced on the accreditation for the Programme based on the reports submitted and relevant data collected. During the process, the expert panel discussed with both the Chinese and British representatives of the teaching faculty on course settings and the quality of teaching and learning. At a separate symposium, students delegates were also invited to report their impression and gains of the curriculum and to comment on the teaching procedures and online learning. Though the experts were unable to visit the School for site investigation due to Covid-19 pandemic, they inspected the facilities of the School, viewed the learning routines of the students via live stream, and completed all the procedures required for the accreditation.
According to the feedback of the accreditation in early September, BCS expert panel highly commended on the achievements of the Programme of the Joint School and were satisfied with the teaching and learning arrangements, curriculum, teaching facilities, faculty, and students’ caliber and learning outcomes.
Preparations of the teaching faculty
After rigorous assessment, the panel finally recommended to give the Programme the Five-year BCS Engineering Education Accreditation, which covers the longest period among all the accreditations. Such an accreditation demonstrates the adequate academic support, practicable curriculum structures, qualified experimental facilities, and high-quality teaching outcomes of the Programme.
It is the second accredited programme of the School after the one of Electronic and Electrical Engineering which obtained its international accreditation in 2021.
