The grand final of Global Chinese University Students Data Application Innovation Competition (GUDC) backed by Chang’an Automobile was held through live streaming on December 12. The graduate student delegation from the School of Information Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, excelled in the competition and won the first prize under the guidance of Yang Xue.
The competition has attracted 513 research teams from 138 elite universities globally ever since the start of the competition on September 13, 2022. 15 teams, from prestigious universities at home and abroad, including Tsinghua University, SWJTU, University College London, etc., outshone others in the preliminary contest and reached the final successfully. Remarkably, the automatic driving assistance systems of SWJTU, entitled “Safe Travel Under Intelligent Auxiliary Technology”, was highly recognized in the defense by the expert judges of the organizing committee, for its reasonable and sufficient use of the data from the competition, efficient classification of the real-world scenes, and evaluation of the risk in automatic driving.
Tutor Yang and two main team members, Yang Cheng and Tang Hengxuan, come from the research team of information security and big data coding, at the School of Information Science and Technology, SWJTU. The team is dedicated to the R&D of basic theories and technologies on big data processing, such as efficient storage, data security and data mining. Over the years, the team have been encouraging its members to participate in various projects and competitions, and have so far trained lots of outstanding students including one winner of the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations and one winner of the IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award (the only one in China so far).
