On the morning of 21 June, the graduation ceremony and degree awarding ceremony for the graduates of 2024 were held in the Northern Stadium of Xipu Campus.

President Yan Xuedong expressed in his speech that during their past few years at the University, the graduates have continuously improved and proved themselves worthy of the degrees conferred. They have constantly enriched their lives, enhanced their competences, and exemplified their sense of responsibility.

Yan also gave three pieces of advice to all the graduates. Firstly, students should cultivate a strong sense of patriotism and act tenaciously in revitalizing our nation. Secondly, students should courageously pursue innovation and unleash their momentum. Thirdly, students should uphold honesty and integrity and rise to the challenges.

Speakers at the ceremony include Hong Fangming, the alumni representative and currently Vice President of Huawei Cloud, who graduated from the Bachelor Program of Metal Materials and Heat Treatment in 1995 and the Master Program of Technical Economics and Management in 1998; Mai Ruikun, the faculty representative from the School of Electrical Engineering; Li Wei, the undergraduate representative from the School of Public Administration; and Tong Xinhao, the doctoral representative from the School of Civil Engineering.

Yu Minming, Secretary of the CPC SWJTU Committee presented to the representatives of the graduates graduation gifts of the University: an ornamental piece entitled “Impression of SWJTU”.

At the ceremony, He Zhengyou, Vice Chairman of the Degree Evaluation Committee and Vice President of the University, read out the decision of degree conferment: 5,757 students were conferred bachelor's degrees, 5,027 master's degrees and 467 doctoral degrees.

The Student Art Troupe sang “The Shining You”, an original song created by the graduates. The journey of youth is about to usher in a brand new future, and all graduates will set sail from SWJTU to a broader stage of life, no matter where their path leads, each is hoped to be the shining one.

The singing of university anthem by all present marked the end of the 2024 Graduation Ceremony and the teachers saluted the graduates as they were leaving the stadium and heading for their life’s new destinations.
